Class VII
Aim : To master the use of
fractions & decimals in day to day life
Story: Imagine , you are a
famous chef at a fancy restaurant.
The restaurant has got the contract for catering at these
6 famous events:
1.
Vogue
fashion show
Number of guests = 75
2. Premiere of Amitabh Bachchan’s new movie: Number
of guests = 130
3. Alia Bhatt’s birthday party:
Number of guests = 50
4. Picnic for class VII of MCGS
Number of guests = 110
5. Tanishq jewellery show
Number of guests = 45
6. Your mother’s kitty party
Number of guests = 25
Choose any one event for which you would be
catering.
You can create a theme for the party as well for example
– Rajasthani, tropical, Halloween, Christmas, etc.
For each event, you must have
2 appetisers ,
1 drink ,
2 main course dishes
1 desert.
So a total of 6 recipes are to be chosen.
Recipes for 2 categories(Drinks &
Desserts) have been attached for your reference.
You are expected to similarly choose recipes for the
other two categories(Appetizers & main course).
The recipe that you choose should have at least 5
ingredients out of which 3 must be in fraction or decimal form.
You can choose the cost of the recipe per helping
according to your discretion( Cost should be in decimals only).
All the ingredients must be adjusted for the number of
guests.
You would be marked on the following:
A. Presentation:
Your party planner can be presented as a Power point presentation or a movie.If
you wish to present it in physical format, then all relevant pictures must be
attached.
B. Answer
the following questions:
1.
Which party did you choose to cater?
2.
How many guests were there for the party?
3.
Present the Menu card with the dishes of your
choice
4. Prepare
an invoice(bill) for the party. The bill must contain the following:

b.
Rate per head
c.
Total price for each item
d. Total
bill
Suggestion:
You can attach a video of you cooking or pictures of some
of the dishes that you choose, to make your project more appealing.
You can take help and advice from your parents, friends,
teacher, internet, Google, etc. Feel free to contact us for any other queries.
Please note: You are not expected to actually
cook the dishes although if you so desire, you may try out the recipes.
Drinks
( Mocktails)
1. Watermelon slush
Cost per person: Rs 75.75
You Will
Need:
- 1 cup watermelon (deseeded and
cubed)
- 2 ½ cups unsweetened almond milk
- 4-5 mint sprigs (chopped)
How To
Prepare:
1.
Freeze
the watermelon cubes overnight.
2.
Blend
the watermelon cubes with almond milk into a smooth liquid.
3.
Pour
in a serving glass, garnish with chopped mint sprigs, and serve with immediately.
2. Shirley temple
Cost per person: Rs 90.25
You Will
Need:
- 1/2oz. cocktail cherry juice
- ¼ fl.oz. fresh lime juice
- 6oz. ginger ale
- ½ cup maraschino cherries (for
garnish)
- ½ cup ice cubes
How To
Prepare:
1.
Take
a Collins glass, fill it half with ice cubes, and add cocktail cherry juice,
lime juice, and ginger ale by stirring gently.
2.
Garnish
with two skewered maraschino cherries or ordinary cherries and serve immediately.

You Will Need:
· 1 cup of ginger ale
· 1 cup of fresh lemonade
· 3 strawberries (finely chopped)
· 1 strawberry (thinly sliced, for garnish)
· ½ cup ice cubes
How To Prepare:
1.
Put
lemonade, ginger ale, finely chopped strawberry, and ice cubes in a cocktail
shaker and shake everything well for at least five to seven minutes.
2.
Pour the mix into a cocktail glass, garnish with strawberry slices, and
serve immediately.

You Will Need:
· 1 cups grape juice
· 1tbsp lemon juice
· 1tbsp lime juice
· oz. canned apple juice concentrate
(frozen and thawed)
· ½ orange (sliced)
· ½ lime (sliced)
· 1 apple (cored and chopped)
· 1 cup strawberries (sliced)
· 1 cup water
How To Prepare:
1.
Put
grape juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and apple juice concentrate in a pitcher.
2.
Add
orange, lime, apple, and strawberry slices and give a quick stir.
3.
Add
water and keep in the refrigerator for an hour.
4.
Serve
chilled

You Will Need:
· 1 cup fresh pineapple juice
· 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
· 1tsp honey
· 1tbsp fresh cilantro (chopped)
· 1 cup crushed ice
How To Prepare:
1.
Put
crushed ice in a cocktail shaker and pour pineapple and orange juice over the
ice.
2.
Add
honey and cilantro, and shake the mixture thoroughly for five minutes.
3.
Serve
immediately.

You Will Need:
- 1 cup cranberry juice
- ½ cup pineapple juice
- ½ cup orange juice
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ½ cup ice cubes
How To Prepare:
1.
Add
all the ingredients in a medium-sized pitcher and stir them well.
2.
Pour
the mixture into a wine glass, add some ice cubes, and serve right away.

You Will
Need:
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 cup fresh pineapple (diced)
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- ½ cup coconut milk
- 2 cup ice cubes

How To
Prepare:

Blend
banana, pineapple pieces, pineapple juice, ice, and coconut milk in a blender.
2.
Pour
the mixture into a red wine or martini glass, garnish with pineapple wedges, and serve immediately.

Need:
- ½ cup tomato juice (without
seed)
- 5 ½ fl.oz. vegetable juice (with
no salt)
- ½tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1tbsp fresh lemon juice
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- 1tsp fresh dill (chopped)
- 1tsp dill pickle juice
- Dash of tabasco sauce or your
favorite hot sauce
- ½ cup ice cubes
How To
Prepare:
1.
Blend
all the ingredients into a smooth-flowing drink using a blender.
2.
Pour the ready drink into a flute glass and serve immediately
9. Mint choco mocktail
Cost per person: Rs 150.75
You Will Need:
· Low-fat or non-dairy chocolate and
mint ice cream
· Coconut cream
· A handful of mixed nuts (finely
chopped)
· ½ cup crushed ice
· 2tsp dark chocolate syrup
(sugar-free)
How To Prepare:
1.
Dip
the rim of a cocktail glass into the chocolate syrup and set it aside to dry.
2.
Next,
put all the ingredients into a blender and blend them well.
3.
Pour
the drink into the cocktail glass and serve immediately.

You Will Need:
· 2 cup apple juice or cider (mild
cider)
· 1 orange (sliced into wheels)
· 2 cinnamon sticks
· 6 whole cloves
How To Prepare:
1.
Put
all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat the mixture on medium heat until it
begins boiling.
2.
Turn
off the heat, let the mixture stand a few minutes to allow the flavors to
blend.
3.
Pour
the mixture into a cup and serve while still warm.

· 1 cup orange juice
· 2 cup homemade lemonade (sugar-free)
· 1 cup grenadine or cranberry juice

How To Prepare:
1.
Take
a hurricane glass and fill its one-third with orange juice.
2.
Add
lemonade to fill the glass, leaving a small gap for the grenadine.
3.
Slowly
and carefully pour a small amount of grenadine such that it sinks to the bottom
of the drink to make a red layer.
4.
Garnish
with an orange slice tucked at the edge of the glass and serve right away.

- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup almond milk
- ½ cup fresh lemon juice
- ½ cup agave syrup

How To Prepare:
1.
Blend
all the ingredients into a smooth-flowing mix using a blender.
2.
Transfer
the mix into a glass and place it in the refrigerator to chill.

How
to:
1.
Take
four clear glasses or mugs. Layer one-third of the cup with fresh yogurt.

Combine
the fresh berries and crumble the granola bars.

2. Chia
seeds pudding

Chia seed
pudding is one of the healthiest Italian desserts that you can make in a short
time because chia seeds provide fibre , protein, and omega 3s.
You
will need:
- 1 cup almond milk, unsweetened
- 1 cup plain yogurt, low-fat
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup, plus 4 more
for dressing
- ¼ cup chia seeds
- 1 tsp vanilla syrup
- 1 cup strawberries, hulled and
chopped
- ½ cup sliced almonds
- Salt to taste
How
to:
1.
In
a bowl, whisk the almond milk, yogurt, salt, two tablespoons maple syrup, and
chia seeds. Let it sit for a half hour.
2.
Stir
to evenly distribute the seeds, if they have settled at the bottom. Cover with
a lid and refrigerate for a day. It can stay refrigerated up to five days.
3.
Before
serving it the next day, toss in strawberries, almonds, and remaining maple
syrup in a bowl.
4.
Distribute
the chia seed mix into four glasses, top each with a spoon of the almond and
strawberry mix and serve.

3. Irish
apple cake

You
will need:
- 1 cup plain flour
- 4 red apples, peeled, cored, and
diced
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tbsp butter, room temperature
- ¼ cup walnuts, chopped
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg powder
How
to:

Preheat
the oven to 350°F.

Grease
an eight-inch square pan generously.
3.
In
a bowl, combine the sugar, and butter and whisk till it becomes creamy.

Whisk
in the egg, the nuts, apples, and vanilla.

Sift
the flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and cinnamon powder, and salt,
and add them to the creamy mixture. Mix well.
6.
Pour
the batter into the greased pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until the cake is
well done.

Remove
from the oven and let it cool in the pan.

Remove
from the pan and top it with whipped vanilla cream or icing and serve.

5. Toasted coconut laddoo

Ladoos are
popular sweet treats in India and loved by all who have a sweet tooth. This
recipe uses coconut and vegan alternatives.
You
will need:
- 1 ½ cups finely shredded fresh
coconut
- 1 cup coconut cream, or full-fat
coconut cream
- 1/3 cup sugar or jaggery powder
- Ground cardamom
- Pinch of salt
How
to:
1.
In
a skillet, dry roast the shredded coconut on medium heat. Roast for three to
four minutes or until the coconut (most of it) turns golden brown.
2.
Add
the coconut milk or cream to the toasted coconut and cook for two minutes.
3.
Add
the salt and sugar and stir. Add the cardamom powder.
4.
Let
it cook on medium heat until the coconut mixture completely absorbs the milk or
cream. When you squeeze the mixture with a spoon, there shouldn’t be any milk
or creamy liquid.
5.
Let
it cool down to room temperature and then make balls out of it.
You can keep
it for a week when stored in an airtight container or the refrigerator.

6. Atta ka halwa

Halwa is an
Indian sweet dish made with wheat or white flour, sugar, and dry fruits. One of
the easier dishes, halwa is a common dish but not something you must indulge in
often if made of white flour.
You
will need:
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- 1/3 cup clarified butter, or
canola oil
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- ¼ cup raisins
- 2 tbsp sliced almonds
- 1 tbsp pistachios for garnishing
- ¼ tsp ground cardamom
How
to:
1.
Boil
water and sugar in a pan over medium heat, until the sugar is completely
dissolved. Take it off the heat and set it aside.
2.
Melt
the clarified butter (or heat canola oil) in a frying pan. Stir in the wheat
flour and mix well. Roast the flour until it turns light golden brown and emits
a sweet aroma.
3.
Stir
in the sugar syrup slowly and then mix slowly, to ensure there are no lumps.
Add the raisins, cardamom powder, and half the almonds. Stir until you get the
desired consistency.
4.
The
halwa will become harder after it cools, so let the halwa be slightly softer
than the consistency you want before taking it off the heat.
5.
Garnish
with remaining pistachios and almonds. Serve warm.

6.Chocolate coated hina arare
Cost per

Hina arare
is more of a sweet snack than an after-meal dessert. This dish is made during
the Japanese dolls festival that falls in March every year.
You will need:
- 50g cream cheese
- 50g melted white chocolate
- 30g hina arare (bite-sized
Japanese cracker)
How
to:
1.
If
you have a slab of chocolate, melt it in a boiler over hot water. Let it sit
for a few seconds and mix well.
2.
Mix
the cream cheese to the chocolate and mix.
3.
Add
in the hina arare and stir to mix it.
4.
Mold
the mixture into eight small balls and refrigerate them until they are set.
Store in an
air-tight container for longer shelf-life.

7.Jamaican Gizzada

The Gizzada
is a traditional Jamaican coconut pastry that can be served at parties. Here is
a simple dessert recipe for kids.
You
will need:
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1 ½ cups grated coconut
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 ½lb brown sugar
- 1oz butter
- ¼ tsp nutmeg powder
- 1 tsp shortening
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp butter
- Ice water
How
to:
1.
Combine
sugar and water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil, to make a syrup.Add
grated coconut and nutmeg and continue stirring. Let it boil for 15 minutes.
2.
Stir
in the two tablespoons of butter and stir for six more minutes. Take it off
heat and allow it to cool.
3.
Preheat
an oven to 350°F and grease a baking tray with some butter.
4.
For
the pastry, sift the flour and salt into a bowl. Add the butter and shortening
and mix well. Add the ice water to make a smooth dough and refrigerate the
dough for 20 minutes.
5.
Flour
the surface and roll the dough flat, using a roller pin. Cut out circles from
the flattened dough and place in the greased baking tin.
6.
Bake
for 15 minutes. Fill the pastry bases with the coconut syrup and bake for
another 20 minutes.
7.
Serve
warm.
